About SnowStates
Bridging the gap between high-resolution meteorological data, complex backcountry terrain, and intricate snow physics.
Powered by HRRR & Open-Meteo
We ingest the High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model from NOAA, providing hourly, 3km resolution weather data. This is supplemented by Open-Meteo for comprehensive coverage, ensuring our continuous snowpack evolution models have the most accurate meteorological inputs available.
Advanced Topographical Physics Engine
Our proprietary physics engine operates on a high-resolution DEM (Digital Elevation Model). It actively models 14 distinct snowpack state variables—such as surface hoar formation, wind loading, and melt-freeze cycles, and temperature gradients across complex slopes.
Built for the Backcountry
Designed explicitly for ski tourers, mountaineers, and guides. We don't just give you weather; we translate weather and terrain into actionable snow state predictions, helping you plan more informed routes before you leave the house.
Meet the Team
We are a small team of backcountry enthusiasts and technologists dedicated to building tools we want to use ourselves.
